With all the new readers visiting the site I want to take a step back from my investigations and get personal.
I’ve been told I’m way too intense for most people, and so I’m trying to make some changes in the way I relate. I’m not making these changes because I care what people think OF ME, but because I care what people think. I care what people think about the world; I care what people think about themselves; and I care what people think needs to be done to create the change we all need in the world. I guess the point is: I care.
And I have learned that in order to come to a knowledge about meaningful things we have to pay attention. We have to truly engage and be aware.
Now that might sound way too obvious - but I can assure you it is not so easy. Paying attention doesn’t mean judging and it is not about categorizing. It is about being open. Directing one’s attention towards meaningful things requires an openness that draws no boundaries. And to do this we need to suspend what we think we know and let the inherent wisdom and truth of the Other wash over us. To truly know other people we need to swim in their collected individuality.
Everybody speaks their own language – even though we are all utterly interconnected, woven into the fabric of life and the social context from which we come. My ‘language’ is not the same as yours. So feel open to speak your language.

Michael,
I just recently got a comment of yours on my blogspot. I'm not sure if you're still doing any project or what, but I'd love to be part of a project if you've got one for me to be a part of. Your writing is so straightforward and strong; I really dig it.

Hey thanks S.A.
I'm in the writing up phase of a little research project I did on 'why people blog'. You can still lend your thoughts by answering 5 Questions. The post about the projects is 4 posts below this one.
Have fun with it and feel free to provide whatever feedback you feel inclined to offer...
PS- I really like your writing as well, but i had a hard time understanding what it all means, care to expand?

1) Why do you care? Is it professional or personal or both?
2) I'd be interested in reading YOUR answers to the blog research questions...
3) I'd be interested in reading the conclusion of your findings to the blog research.
4) I'd be interested to find out more about whether blogging could be used as a form of "talking therapy".
5) I think your blog is very interesting and thought-provoking. Don't change anything. Love it!
Dear Colored Bovine,
First off: thanks for your comments. Second: below are my answers to your inquisitations
1) Why do you care? Is it professional or personal or both?
I don’t really draw a distinction between my profession and my personal life. I’ve had the good fortune to be so damn stubborn that I only ‘work’ for organizations that focus on actually helping people or effecting positive change in my society.
I ‘care’ because I am endlessly fascinated in the human condition and the world in general. That I get paid to study the human condition and build relationships with a wide spectrum of personalities indicates my obsession with relentlessly following my life-interests in all ways.
2) I'd be interested in reading YOUR answers to the blog research questions...
I will include them in my follow-up post to the study then...
3) I'd be interested in reading the conclusion of your findings to the blog research.
I’m writing up the “results” as we speak – there are a lot of layers to sift through, so it may be a week or so... Stay tuned.
4) I'd be interested to find out more about whether blogging could be used as a form of "talking therapy".
From what I have been able to glean so far, the answer is YES. It seems most people who participated find blogging has a decidedly psychotherapeutic effect. More on that later…
5) I think your blog is very interesting and thought-provoking. Don't change anything. Love it!
Thank you! I have only recently exposed this blog to the public (last 2 months). Before, this site functioned as a place to collect all the important research and media I was looking into and reading online. Now, as I become more involved with the everything already collected and the enormous amount of stuff I encounter online, I’m more interested in expressing my thoughts about particular topics and getting feedback.
Most of the stuff I have written in my adult life, until now, has been highly academic and technical (in the areas of anthropological theory, philosophy and political analysis), but recently I have gained an interest in using this blog to learn how to write for non-specialists and interested lay-readers.
One way I might do this is to write blog posts that summarize or ‘translate’ various ‘intellectual’ or specialist knowledges (e.g., in science, philosophy, critical theory) into more interesting and accessible language for non-academic readers.
I don’t know how successful I will be, but I’m going to give it a try...
Thanks again for you thought
