Ray Brassier - The Pure and Empty Form of Death

The Pure and Empty Form of Death: Deleuze and Heidegger, by Ray Brassier:

In Difference and Repetition, the third synthesis of time is the privileged locus for an apocalyptic individuation whereby, in a striking inversion of Heidegger, the future 'ungrounds' the past and death become the subject of a time that splits the Self. For Deleuze, contra Heidegger, time, like death, is never 'mine': it is no-one's. The affirmation of eternal recurrence effects a mode of psychic individuation which transforms thought into a sign of impersonal death.

It semed like he did no more then
recapitulate a number of old theorists. What was he getting it?

Does this consitute an original reading of Heidiger, Deluze etc?

Hey Zog,

I think Ray was trying to draw out some "fundamental" distinctions within an existential-ontological frame of reference. Using 'death' (nothingness) as a foil he wants to highlight points of departure to talk about non-death, or being-ness. Basically more of his 'beyond nihilism is the really real' thinking in my opinion.

As for it being an original reading, i haven't a clue. I'm no expert on Heidegger or Deleuze.

My sense is that Ray is working on some truly original thoughts. I'll be following to see where it all goes...
