@dmf - I tend to feel the same way about those claims Dirk. As I have said ad nauseam, I prefer the term "assemblage" precisely because no object or system is ever completely closed. All entities, especially loose assemblages such as populations, are embedded in particular relations which contribute (to varying degrees) to their defining characteristics. Or, as Latour argues, nothing exists outside the networks which produce it. I have been playing with the notion of ‘matrices of affectivity’ to capture the generative nature of entities, networks and assemblages.

I'll be interested in your take on Larval-Levi's post on the lecture(which largely made sense to me), GlenFuller's repy reminds me what I don't like about Massumi and why I question Protevi's extension of weather-like patterns into the social realm, folds of reality is too much like a kind of hindu all things are just surface manifestations of the roiling One,so I'll be interested in how you keep the objects in the assemblage of your "matrices".
